What does the Garrett County Judy Center do?

  • Brings together the resources of schools and community agencies to assure children’s success in school
  • Supports parents in their role as their “child’s first teacher” by providing information, workshops, parent-child activities, playgroups and parent learning opportunities
  • Links with Broad Ford, Crellin, Grantsville, Yough Glades and Friendsville Elementary Schools
  • Assists the kindergarten, pre-k, Head Start, Early Head Start and private early care and education teachers to provide quality education in accredited/validated programs
  • Supports before and after school child care services for children ages 6 weeks through age 12
  • Operates full day/full year services
  • Provides on-going staff development and training for Garrett County early childhood professionals aligned with the Garrett County Board of Education and the Maryland Model for School Readiness
  • Assists children and families in transitioning between early childhood programs
  • Coordinates family support services and provides links to community resources such as adult education, employment/job training, housing assistance, and financial coaching
  • Uses the Maryland Model for School Readiness to assess the readiness of young children for school
  • Maintains a strong focus on Family Literacy
