This set of workshops, usually held for two consecutive Monday evenings each month, gives the attendee an overview of all aspects of purchasing a home. Those participants who are planning to purchase a home utilizing the Homebuyers Program must have attended both Monday evening workshops. Each participant will receive a certificate which verifies his/her attendance at both workshops. There is no expiration date on the certificate, so a participant is under no time constraint in finding a home to purchase.
Topics covered include working with a realtor, obtaining a mortgage, home inspections, what happens at settlement, budgeting for homeownership, and maintaining a home, just to name a few. A $10 credit report fee will be collected from each participant the first evening of the workshop. Credit reports are pulled for all participants, who will then have the opportunity to speak with a banking professional on the second night of the workshop. These meetings are private and confidential, and are crucial to assisting applicants in improving their credit scores so that they can then obtain a mortgage at a reasonable rate.
To register for a workshop, call Asset Development at (301) 334-9431, Ext. 6150, and they will let you know when the next workshop will be. Workshops are held nearly every month, so if you cannot make the current workshop, there will most likely be another one the following month. If you register for a workshop and find you cannot make it, please call the office to let us know so that someone else may take your place, as attendance is limited to 10 families for each workshop. All workshops are held in the GCCAC Conference Room (1st Floor) at 104 E. Center Street.
