Summer Camps are held about 2 weeks prior to the new school year and help kindergarten and pre-k children transition into the public school setting - they are 1 week from 9am-12 pm, Mon. through Fri.  Board of Education teachers staff the camps and are assigned their new incoming students.  Camps are designed to promote social skills, give children an idea of the routine school day, show that school is a fun place to learn and give them a boost into the school year.  Children experience their classroom environment, meet their teacher and principal, make friends, and explore the school such as visiting the music room, art, gym, cafeteria, and of course the playground.  Teachers plan a lightly structured week (around the topic of their choice) to help children adjust to being in a classroom, learn general manners, and classroom rules/routines.  Summer camps also provide children with a much more relaxed atmosphere without the typical loud, busy hallways during a typical school day.  August 2013 is the eighth year for summer camps and has proven to be a great success for children, parents, and teachers.
