Summer Camps are held during the summer, prior to the new school year and help kindergarten and pre-k children transition into the public school setting - they are 1 week from 9am-12 pm, Mon. through Fri. Board of Education teachers staff the camps. Camps are designed to promote social skills, give children an idea of the routine school day, show that school is a fun place to learn and give them a boost into the school year. Children experience their classroom environment, make friends, and explore the school such as visiting the music room, art, gym, cafeteria, and of course the playground. Teachers plan a lightly structured week (around the theme of their choice) to help children adjust to being in a classroom, learn general manners, and classroom rules/routines. Summer camps also provide children with a much more relaxed atmosphere without the typical loud, busy hallways during a typical school day. July 2018 is the 13th year for summer camps and they have proven to be a great success for children, parents, and teachers.
